Are you a fan of cricket? Then hold your breath and get ready to experience the clash of Pera boys in the upcoming Super League 2019. Pera Super League is a dashing 20/20 cricket tournament organized by the Peradeniya cricket team with the helping hands of the Department of Physical Education. PSL is an annual cricket tournament which was first held in 2012. The matches are played with the participation of 4 teams. These four teams are named after the four main halls of residence for boys; Marrs, Marcus, Akbar and Jennings. The teams are: Marrs Stallions, Marcus Knights, Akbar Super Heroes and Jennings Warriors, awaiting to battle against each other.
This annual Super League provides the platform for the young lads who are talented in cricket to exhibit their skills to the whole University. Besides, this event is a great experience for all the cricket fans in the University.
This year, 98 players have been divided into the four teams. In view of the history of the PSL, in 2012, a joint victory was awarded for the winning teams. The 2014 tournament was won by Akbar Super Heroes, 2015 by Jennings Warriors and 2016 by Marrs Stallions. The last year championship was won by the Marcus Knights and the team will be leading this time by Narada Ranganath as the captain. Last year’s runners up team, Akbar Super Heroes will be leading this time by Aravinda Deshabakthi. Sapumal Narampanawa from Marrs Stallions and Nilupul Bimsara from Jennings Warriors will be taking the captancy for each team.
This event facilitates the boys from the four hostels to get to know each other and build up new friendships. Furthermore this encounter motivate the participants to play cricket more and more and identify themselves with their talents in sports arena. This whole process would result in generating talented and skillful cricketers which might become the future blood of the Pera Cricket team who are striving to bring glorious victories to mother Pera.
